Katrina Benson

Katrina Benson’s abstract oil paintings are driven by an intuitive and process-led approach to paint and colour. Working without a predetermined subject, she builds each work through layers of marks, gestures and colour, allowing the painting to evolve through a considered dialogue between what has been made and what comes next.

Drawing inspiration from her surroundings, particularly the built environment and landscapes of Melbourne, Katrina explores colour, balance, rhythm and the relationships between shapes and forms. Her paintings sit between abstraction and suggestion, inviting the viewer to find their own sense of place, atmosphere and connection.
